Chickens at the Urban Farm Store in PDX

The Urban Farm Store in Portland Oregon is a small, family owned company founded on love of pets, gardens and community.  They offer a variety of products, services and classes to support a sustainable lifestyle with a specialty in backyard chicken keeping.  This was the first stop on my wife's quest to start raising chickens of our own.  Not only is the Urban Farm store a great shop, the owners Robert and Hannah Litt also wrote an awesome book about raising chickens called A Chicken in Every Yard.  Can't say that I've read it because I barely know how to read, but my wife did and she's now the chicken master of our own urban farm.

I've liked taking pictures of our birds from day one and now that we've had them for over a year, I'm getting pretty good at capturing fowl actions in my little studio.  With a hidden desire to create a chicken photo book in honor of the backyard birds of Portland, I approached Robert at the farm store about taking pictures of some of his in-house pets at the shop.

Here's a look at our first session!  Special thanks to Robert and the store for letting us take some pictures. Also thanks to my dedicated assistant, Melissa the Chicken Whisperer.  May we have many more chicken sessions!
