Time to Tango

March 15, 2013  •  Leave a Comment

Friends of ours are avid tango dancers and they've been inviting us for a night of dancin' at their hall for months.  With an upcoming trip to Argentina, the birthplace of this popular dance style, it was time for my wife and I to lace 'em up and see what the buzz is all about.

Tango is a partnered social dance, with the couple dancing embraced. Unlike "ballroom" style dances, which tend to be more structured, social tango is improvised, with every step being a spontaneous discovery in the moment.  Think jazz for dancing.

Knowing nothing about tango until this week, I'm glad I got a hands on introduction to the art form before my first trip south of the equator.  This style of dance definitely takes some skills and practice, so I don't think I'll be tangoing with any of the local pros... but I will enjoy taking their pictures!

The countdown to Tales of the Cocktail On Tour Buenos Aires continues!
