Wedding photo fun from New Orleans
I've traveled to New Orleans for the last six years to cover a one of a kind event called Tales of the Cocktail. Over those years I've been approached a few times to cover weddings in the Bayou but up until this year, I've still never photographed a wedding in Louisiana. It's now time to knock off another state from my wedding photo bucket list! We've officially conquered the Big Easy, and it was well worth the wait!
First, let's talk about how awesome my couple was. Kelly and Erik live in St. Augustine Florida and both are fans of bar culture and the industry. Kelly works at one best new bars in the country called the Ice Plant. Along with their wedding festivities, they were both enjoying what the Tales event had to offer. If you ever get the chance to hang out with a crew that's part of a bar scene, do it! Some of the best folks around. Always lookin' to have a good time but also always making sure your having a good time with them. And guests were definitely having a great time at this event! Lots of cheersing goin' on here and we're not talking champagne, pass the Fernet!
Has anyone outside of the state of Louisiana heard of a second line? This is easily one of the coolest wedding traditions I've ever documented and can't believe it took me so long to be a part of one. It's a quite simple tradition really, fire up the brass band and take the party to the streets... And don't forget your drinks and dancin' shoes! This was soooo much fun. I'm a little surprised second line traditions don't happen everywhere in the states. But with that said, it makes me happy this only happens in one area in our country. Just another thing on a growing list that makes New Orleans so unique. What a perfect way to celebrate with anyone, including complete strangers. I felt like the whole block was partying with us.
Big thanks to this wedding and Jennifer Mitchell Photography for letting me capture some special pics with everyone, I was part of the family by the end of the night. This party will hold a special place in my heart for years to come. Maybe we'll all be back at Tales '16 for a little one year anniversary party... Fernet about it!!
