Team Bert & Chip take on the Chattanooga Waterfront TriathlonI started running a few years ago while living in Portland. My wife Melissa was competing in races for over two years before I finally caved in and signed up for one. It was New Year's Eve, I didn't remember signing up for it until Melissa reminded me when we woke up the following day. It was only a 5k, how hard could it be? Especially for somebody who participated in sports growing up. The joke was on me! My first day out, I couldn't even make it to the end of the block without stopping and gasping for air. This was going to be harder than I thought. Lucky for me, motivational apps exist on today's phones. Mix that with loud music and I was set. If it wasn't for the "From Couch to 5K" app, and heavy metal blasting in my ears, I wouldn't have made it. Especially after struggling for the first couple weeks. Once I survived my first race, which was officially an 8k (go me!), I signed up and ran a few more. Gaining some confidence in my running skills, I entered a half marathon. It was while training for this race I realized how much I hated running longer distances. In the end, I'm happy to say I completed a half, but that event hurttt! Time to find something new... enter triathlons! I loved biking and swimming when I was younger, why not give them a try again? And that brings us to Southern Tennessee. Congratulations to Melissa and her Uncle Chip for completing the Chattanooga Waterfront Triathlon. This was the second tri they've done together, my first as a spectator. Fun to photograph, but I'm ready to train again! Where to next Melissa and Chip?
Melissa, Chippie and I are thinking of forming our own triathlon team... any suggestions for a team name?
