halfway house for chickensSince our hen Shelly turned into Shelldon the Rooster, we had to kick him off the Smith Farm as male fowl are not allowed anywhere within Portland city limits. Where do unwanted cocks end up when they have nowhere else to go? Why a halfway house for roosters of course! When Shelldon violated one of our favorite hens last week, we knew it was finally time to send him off to his new home. We brought our angry rooster to Pete (same dude from the Portlandia - Chicken Farm video in the above link) and he happily took Shelldon out to his farm. After giving Shelly some time to settle into his new environment, we thought today would be a perfect time to visit. After about an hour drive east of Portland, we pulled up to the halfway farm and were excited to see a mixture of hens, roosters, turkeys and ducks roaming the grounds. We spotted our bird in only a few minutes and we were happy to see him chilling in his new place. I think he even recognized my wife but I'll save that conversation for a chicken psychiatrist. The farm does try and place all of their birds into new homes, so the journey of Shelldon will continue! Don't be frightened by the Skull Ranch pictures at the end of this blog. It's just some weird place we drove by on the way back home that welcomes big foot...
