Toast 2016 - Oregon Distiller's Guild

Toast 2016 is the 6th installment of an annual tasting event put on by the Oregon Distiller's Guild. I was lucky enough to discover Toast last year and was excited to return for this year's version. Not only does Oregon have some of the best breweries in the world, there's a growing buzz that we also have some of the best artisan distilleries in the world too. Evidence can be found at gatherings like this. 40 distilleries participated this in this year's event offering over 120 spirits for enthusiasts to sip on. Whiskey, gin, rum, tequilas, the usual suspects were all there. Also included were some not so familiar spirits, ever try absinthe? I'll never forget tasting my first absinthe years ago in New Orleans, what a fun history and cool spirit. After hearing some tall tales about the effects of sippin' this classic liqueur, I was pleasantly surprised to find out I wasn't going to hallucinate. All I was in for was unique and tasty drink. Try one the next time you're in the Big Easy, or any cocktail bar for that matter!

If you're living in the Pacific Northwest and interested in tasting some of the region's best small batch spirits, make sure to put this event on next year's calendar. It's easily one of the best parties of its' kind here in Portland, can't wait to come back and taste more goodies next year. Cheers!
